#1 Dad
Interview with Malik Burgers from 1207

What’ are people’s reaction to “Pulp Fiction”

I've been getting a lot of positive feedback. People have been telling me its something wavy. I'm proud of this shit man.

What was the process behind “Pulp Fiction”?

It all started with lsd on a sour patch kid.

What was the difference between making Pulp Fiction and making Decoy?

Pulp Fiction had more emotion and feel in it. I could actually listen to my own tape now and really vibe with it. Decoy was a growing process, but I feel like I've found my sound.

What makes the perfect burger?

Crazy shit that shouldn't be in a burger. Like fries and shit, maybe chips.

Have you hit up any strip clubs with your new ID yet?

I actually haven't smh. I'm waiting to go to a crazy strip club where it changes my life and how I look at women

What does it take to be the #1 Dad?

You don't need kids to be a dad, remember that. That's all.

On your new project you state how by the second show you and the rest of 1207 had taken the city over, how did it feel that by guy’s’ second show you all were starting to get recognition?

It felt crazy. Artists that I've been fucking with before I started rapping were noticing us and giving us props. Its just a really good feeling.

I feel “Closed Doors” and “NC” have a similar theme and feel, what inspired you to make these songs?

Experimenting with drugs and trying to describe how I really feel and things that stood out to me while off the shits.

Why did you decide to name this project Pulp Fiction?

Pulp Fiction is one of my favorite movies and it really taught me a lot. I liked how it changed the game of the movie industry. I really didn't know why I named the project after the movie until I started really working on it and shit. I was trying out different things other people do to "cope" or have a good time, not because I'm just needing a good time, because I know what it takes to really be happy and I see how in those things you get a taste of what really makes you happy, but you don't need anything but yourself to be happy. Other things should just be a bonus, not the source to your happiness. So my Pulp Fiction was just finding the truth behind all the fake shit put on this earth.

How did you start making music?

Its crazy. I was actually seeing Spooks making music as a local. I never really thought of rapping till I was at my homie Artie's (lurkinartie) house. We were all just chillin playing instrumentals and shit and I just freestyled something hot lmao. I woulda never took the initiative to start rapping if it wasn't for Spooks. I just said "if this nigga could do it I should give it a try". Look at us now.

Have you thought about collabing with Burger Records?

I never heard of Burger Records but sounds like something that needs to happen tho.

You stated how “Making Pulp Fiction taught me how to speak to people and really express how I feel. I was never good at that.” Can you elaborate on this statement.

Before really starting this project, I couldn't really express myself. Idk, I was just awkward and wouldn't really tell anyone how I felt. After really writing raps and expressing myself thru music it made it a lot easier to communicate with people without feeling awkward. So any moment now where I feel like I should express to someone how I feel I do it with no hesitation. Ladies ain't really used to niggas being straight up like that, feel me? But we outchea baby come fuck wit a real one.

How was the Pulp Fiction listening party?

Shit was better than I expected. I can't believe niggas came out to kick it and listen to something that was already on Soundcloud. That meant a lot to me. Made me feel like people actually fuck with me.

Do you have any visuals in the works for this project?

Yeah got some saucy visuals for 1080p coming soon.

What do you have planned next?

I have no idea. A wise man once told me "If you gonna do the shit, do the shit. Don't think about doing the shit, just do the shit." -Rob $tone (2015)
